Grade 8 Reading Lesson 23 Short Stories – My Bank Account

I had taken part in this public speaking completion. I had prepared well, and felt very confident. I was sure I’d win a prize this time. As my name was called out, I walked up to the stage with an air of confidence. Then, very boldly I addressed the judges, and my friends, and the audience. And then, for a moment, I was paralyzed. I forgot my topic! I tried recalling it, but I couldn’t. Someone in the back snorted. By then, stage fright had caught me and I was shaking like a leaf.
This was my most embarrassing moment. In this story, My Bank Account, by Stephen Leacock, you will read the narrator’s embarrassing situation.
