Grade 9 Reading Lesson 3 Poetry – Hope is a Thing with Feathers

You read the story of Pandora and her treasure box, didn’t you? In the story, you came to read how all the problems we see around us today burst out from the box. Until then, people had been innocent and had lived in paradise, but the time had come for them to get to know pain, fear and anger, diseases and worries, wars and all kinds of other illnesses. Only one thing was left in the box – Hope. It was in the end that this Hope Fairy came out of the box and stayed with us forever. And it is this Hope that Emily Dickinson is describing in this poem, Hope is a Thing with Feathers.
